Latest news from Valladolid 2/11/05
This week we have the Archbishop Kelly of Liverpool with us for one week. The 3 Liverpool students haven’t officially received their mandate so there are on best behaviour! The talks have mostly been on Scripture with lots of anecdotes, particularly about his work in the Holy Land. Most of it has been very good, although I don’t agree with all his views. It was great to go with Fr Peter from East London to the Trojan horse restaurant and catch up with the last news in London! This weekend we are having a concert to celebrate 400 years of peace between Spain and England and next week there is a conference here. Some students from Valladolid University will come to the concert. All souls and All saints have just passed. We survived the pagan festival of Halloween by stocking up on sweets to deter against little brats. We also celebrated the birth of a new Royal princess this week with Champagne- as the College is obviously about as monarchial as you can get ( “Real” =royal). This week I’ve been looking at the Council of Trent, doing the subjunctive in Spanish and reading about Cardinal Bernadin’s struggle with cancer.
